Volunteers like local resident Elizabeth Anderson pay their rent tenfold with the gift of their time and devotion to the surrounding community and beyond. Elizabeth has been volunteering with Firefly Children’s Initiative for four years, serving as both its Co-Founder and President.
The late, great, Muhammad Ali once said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
Firefly Children’s Initiative provides financial support and encouragement to both families who have adopted, fostering families or those planning to adopt in the near future. This work takes many different faces, from respite nights for the parents in the foster and adoption world, to adoption grants and financial support to a group home in Haiti. Firefly Children’s Initiative seeks to love the marginalized kids in the world and offer encouragement to others who are currently working to do the same.
The Anderson’s make service a priority for the entire family. Elizabeth’s husband Steve and their three kids, Jonathan, Gideon, and Zoey are all able to help serve in Firefly as well. Steve serves on the board and the kids help in any way that they can. The Anderson’s find that the volunteer experience provides their family with a tangible way to help other people and work together in an area that they are passionate about.
If you share their passion for helping others, they are always looking for people to join them for events. The more people willing to lend a their hearts, the better the Firefly Children’s Initiative can help both adoptive families and vulnerable children in more effective and meaningful ways.
