Wow!!! What a fantastic summer… The heat was intense, the sun was out, and the days were long. I may be prejudice, but I swear we are blessed to live in the most beautiful area. Our exquisite sunrises would start the day, and our sunsets were the perfect reminder of everything we have to be grateful for. They afforded us the opportunity to unwind, relax, and enjoy the company of friends and family.
So now, I suppose, it’s time to start thinking of the blessings that fall can bring. All the Pumpkin Spice fans can rejoice, for there are donuts, cider, and lattes to look forward to. Sweatshirts make an appearance around bonfires that are still possible, and crockpots simply become a way of life. I have yet to meet a comfort food I didn’t enjoy.
One of my favorite things about fall is the changing leaves. Our trees proudly display their robust colors of orange, gold and scarlet, while our porches are adorned with cornstalks, pumpkins and mums.
As we update our mindset, we also have the opportunity to update our home. Making seasonal changes doesn’t have to be difficult or break the bank. Throw pillows, tabletop decorations, and bedding are an easy and inexpensive way to give your space a renewed and fresh feeling.
My advice when decorating for a seasonal change is to first select a theme. This year I chose a pumpkin theme for in and outside of my home. I wanted a colorful and inviting front porch so I bought mums of all color and sizes, and then added a few pumpkins to complete the space. If you follow my Instagram or Facebook page its not hard to see I am passionate about ginger jars, so naturally I used a couple vases for the mums!
Tabletop decorating is another amazing way to change the feel of your home without adding unnecessary clutter. It can add the perfect touch and complete the space. For my personal home, I always tend to go with the layered look. I like the warmth it adds, and how interchangeable it can be. I bought the placemats, charger plates and salad plates from Pier One. It’s an easy store to shop, and they usually have a nice selection of tasteful seasonal décor. The dinner plates I bought at a garage sale. Six plates for two bucks (they were originally from Pier One as well)…. Quite the steal!
Have fun with throw pillows! Mixing patterns and colors can add so much to a room! Don’t be afraid to try something new. The possibilities are endless with all the combinations.
Holiday decorating is a busy service of mine, and I always tell my clients not to make space for things, simply replace. Remove items and replace them with the seasonal décor. When it’s time to put everything away, replace it with your original. This is the best way to keep your home uncluttered and cozy.
Remember, it’s adding the little touches throughout your house that makes it feel like home.
Watch out fall, here we come.
